Alexey Chernov was born in 1982 to a family of musicians. He showed his musical ability from an early age. Since he turned 6 years old he began studying at the music school of the Academic College of Music at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he was taught by N.D. Rogal-Levitskaya.

He had studied for 4 years there till he entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Starting from the 4th class for 6 years he was under the instruction of K.A.Shashkina, first teacher of Mikhail Pletnev. In 2000 Alexey graduated from the Central Music School and gained 2 specialties: piano (teacher and professor of the Moscow Conservatory -N.V. Trull) and composition (teacher and professor - L.B.Bobylev).
In the same year, he entered the Piano Faculty of the Moscow Conservatory, under the instruction of N.V. Trull , keeping on composing optionally. During the academic years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 he was awarded a special personalized scholarship from the Russian Federation Federal Agency for Culture and Cinema among 8 other students of the Moscow Conservatory. Besides that he received a special scholarship from the “Russian Performance Art” fund. In 2005, he graduated with honors from the Piano Faculty of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2008, he completed his postgraduate programme at the Moscow Conservatory and continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London with Vanessa Latarche. In 2010, he also completed his postgraduate study programme at the Royal College of Music and earned his Artist Diploma in Performance in 2011. Since 2006 Alexey Chernov is a teacher at the Central Music School of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Yet during his studies at the Central Musical School he has won awards at the 1995 juvenile competition “Classical Heritage” in Moscow, at the 1996 international juvenile competition in Ettlingen , Germany and at the 1997 international competition “Classic Nova” in Germany. In 1997, he won Scriabin scholarship at the competition of young pianists for the best performance of Scriabin’s works; this competition annually takes place at the A.N.Scriabin Memorial Museum in Moscow. Since that time he regularly performs at Scriabin’s music festivals in Moscow and other Russian cities as well as in Paris and Berlin. He was honored to play the piano of the composer, the performance included 3 last sonatas which Scriabin composed at that instrument.
In 1998, he got invitation from Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra to perform Prokofiev’s Concert No. 1, and he did it brilliantly together with the Russian National Orchestra in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory. At that time he received a scholarship from the Administration for Culture and Leisure of Central Administrative District of Moscow.
In 2002, he was awarded a special prize at Scriabin competition of composers.

In the June of 2011 Alexey won the prize of the 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
His extensive repertoire includes various styles of music and a considerable number of piano concerts. Alexey gives concerts regularly. Не collaborated with such conductors as M. Pletnev, R. Martynov, A.Sladkovsky, A. Anisimov, V.Sirenko, D.Yablonsky, G. Rinkevicius, I.Verbitsky, E. Batiz ( Mexico) and others.

Alexey Chernov is the author of various piano, chamber instrumental and symphonic compositions both in large and small form. He collaborates with different organizations of composers and his works are successfully performed within various festivals of modern music. He often includes his piano compositions in concert programmes. His style as a composer is characterized by the support of national traditions and the wide use of the late Romantic stylistics.
